Abergairn Castle

Abergairn Castle is a ruined castle about 1.6 km north of Ballater in the Scottish county of Aberdeenshire . It stands on top of a single Kame , northeast of the entrance to Glen Gairn .

history

The castle belonged to the Farquharsons . It was built in 1614, possibly as a hunting lodge .

architecture

Abergairn Castle was a residential tower , of which little more than the basement is preserved today. The tower was small, possibly three or four stories high, with an attic .

From the main tower only walls up to a height of 1.2 meters have survived; a round tower northwest of it still reaches 3 meters in height today.
