mythology

Abhcan is known as the bard of the Tuatha de Danaan , and his grandmother is said to be Ethniu . According to Irish legend, Ethniu was the daughter of the giant king Balor and mother of the divine Lugh . In Lebor Gabala Eirenn ("The Book of the Lands of Ireland") and the prehistory of the Battle of Mag Tuired he is referred to as the son of Bicelmos and great-grandson of Dian Cecht .

When Lugh first came to the royal castle of the Tuatha de Danaan and asked for admission as a musician, the doorkeeper told him that you didn't need one, since you already had Abhcan mac Bicelmois. He later accompanied the Dagda as his harpist in the second battle of Mag Tuired.

In the story Tochmarc Étaíne ("The courtship for Étain") Oengus is said to have killed him.

Linguistically, the sound of the name "Abhcan" is probably related to the Celtic deity Abianus .
