Abianus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Abianus is a Celtic god of Gaul and is equated with Mercurius according to the Interpretatio Romana .

Inscriptions relating to Abianus have been found in Gordes ( Apta ), Castelnau-le-Lez and Saint-Rémy-de-Provence ( Glanum ), all in the Roman province of Gallia Narbonensis .

Linguistically, the sound of the name Abianus is likely to be related to the Irish legendary figure Abhcan .
