Abide-i Hürriyet ( Ottoman آبدهٔ حریت İA Ābide-ʾi Ḥürrīyet ) is a Freedom Monument in Istanbul ; also known as Hürriyet-i Edediye Abidesi (Monument of Eternal Freedom) and incorrectly called Abideihürriye .

This is the monument to the victims of the uprising against the Young Turkish Revolution of 1909 on the northern edge of Istanbul's Şişli district . Location: North of Boğaziçi Çevre Yolu, southwest of Şişli-Kağıthane-Caddesi, east of Nadide Sokaği.

The 1909 competition for the monument, in which most of the leading Turkish architects of the time and a. the French architect Alexandre Vallaury also participated, and Muzaffer Bey's design won . In 1911 the monument was inaugurated in the form of a monumental column over a crypt-like substructure. The names of the victims of the revolution who were buried around the monument are listed on panels on the base.

The tomb ( Türbe ) for Grand Vizier Mahmud Şevket Pasha , who was murdered in 1913, was built on the site. In 1951, a grave was also laid out for the former Grand Vizier Midhat Pasha , one of the fathers of the 1876 ​​constitution .

In 1943 the bones of Talât Pascha, who was murdered in Berlin in 1921 , were transferred here, and in 1996 those of Enver Pascha, who died in Central Asia in 1922 .

The image of the monument is now the official logo of the Şişli City Council.
