Indulgence tablets are images of edification, the pious contemplation of which in connection with certain prayers - and preceding sacramental confession - was associated with obtaining an indulgence . The epitaph for the dean Kirchhain in Fritzlar Cathedral, who died in 1463, shows that an epitaph could also serve as an indulgence tablet . Also Paxtafeln or kiss panels as the Eberbach Pax were linked to the profits of indulgences.
Indulgence tablets are also called a list of the indulgences that the believer can obtain in this church based on a corresponding privilege (see illustration).
