Abora (deity)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Abora is the highest deity in the mythology of the Guanches on the Canary island of La Palma and corresponds to Achamán on Tenerife .

The name Abora as the god of the Palmeros is mentioned in the script of the Franciscan Fray Juan de Abreu Galindo, Historia de la Conquista de las Siete Islas de Canaria , from the year 1632, in which the following is stated:

“These palm meros worshiped idols, and every prince had a place of worship in his own area. They piled many stones in a pyramid , as high as loose stones can be stacked. Everyone came to that heap of stones, and there they danced, sang lamentations and fought, but they did not fail to remember that there was someone in heaven to whom they had to pay homage and who, according to their understanding, was in heaven, They called him Abora. "

After the deity Abora the reed boats were Abora the German scientist and adventurer Dominique Görlitz named.
