Abram Mejerowitsch Kagan

Abram Mejerowitsch Kagan , Russian Абрам Меерович Каган , (born December 10, 1936 in Moscow ) is an American mathematician from the Soviet Union.

Kagan studied at the University of Tashkent with a diploma and received his doctorate in 1963 from the State University of Saint Petersburg under Juri Linnik (studies on statistical estimation theory). In 1967 he received his habilitation (Russian doctorate). From 1965 to 1988 he was a scientist at the Steklov Institute in Leningrad. Since 1988 he has been at the University of Maryland, College Park , where he is a professor.

He deals with mathematical statistics ( parameter estimation , generalized linear models , Fisher information , sufficient statistics , exponential families and characterization problems ).

His hobbies are chess (he played tournaments in the Soviet Union and the USA), swimming and skiing.
