Under withdrawal is understood in medicine :

  • stopping treatment with a drug . When stopping certain medications, withdrawal phenomena can occur that are comparable to side effects . Therefore, such drugs should only be discontinued after consulting the attending physician . Also placebo effects can occur.
  • Failure to perform a planned surgical procedure : Planned operations can be canceled for various reasons. If there are new aspects of the patient's state of health , an intervention is discontinued in order to first initiate further diagnostics and postpone the operation in the case of additional illnesses , or to omit this entirely if the reasons for the intervention no longer exist. The cancellation of an intervention can also be conditioned by organizational reasons, e.g. B. In emergencies, appointments may be postponed.
  • the surgical cutting off of tissue, creating a margin.
