Uteroplacental dysfunction

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

From a uteroplacental dysfunction occurs when during pregnancy the normal function of the placenta and uterus in metabolism is not given. It is the most important cause of intrauterine deficiency in the fetus . The cause has not yet been fully researched, but unspecific maternal defense mechanisms are considered to be the cause. The trophoblast grows poorly into the uterine wall, so that the gas and nutrient exchange between mother and fetus (via the placenta and uterine wall) is impaired. In addition, the cytokine production seems to be changed in the affected fetuses .

The consequences are often a decline in growth, in some cases preeclampsia and abruptio placentae .
