Maternal

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The attribute maternal ( latin Maternushaus "maternal, the nut") describes the genetics , the inheritance on the nut side lineage , for example, the maternal expression of a gene or the maternal origin of the state form of a gene ( allele ). The attribute paternal describes the biological origin from the father's side.

In contrast to this, matrilinear in the social sciences denotes the limitation of a person's family origin to their maternal side: “(only) in the line of the mother” (maternal line).
