Sprinkle

Scattering grit during a surface treatment

Scattering is a term used in construction engineering and generally describes the even distribution of sand or chippings (obsolete covering chippings ) on a surface. The aggregates can optionally also be coated with bitumen .

Sprinkling can be used for different reasons. In the production of asphalt surfaces , it is used to increase the initial grip . In the case of surface treatment , sprinkling is an integral part of the construction process and takes place after a thin film of binder has been sprayed on. If the grip is to be restored as part of a maintenance measure, then the sprinkling leads to dulling of the road surface.

Various road markings are also sprinkled with a mixture of glass beads and anti-skid agents to increase the grip.
