Exchange variant

Exchange variant refers to a specific variant in different openings in the game of chess .

Exchange variants are usually characterized by the fact that by exchanging pawns at an early stage, the tension in the center is released and the position is simplified. The exchange variant of the Spanish game is an exception ; there the “Spanish runner ” swaps for a jumper early on .
