Political Security Department
The Political Security Division (also Political Security Directorate ; Arabic شعبة الأمن السياسي, DMG Šuʿbat al-amn as-siyāsī ) is an intelligence agency in Syria . It is formally part of the Syrian Interior Ministry .
The Political Security Division is responsible for
- Monitoring national and international media
- Monitoring the political opposition and dissidents
- Monitoring foreigners in the country and their relations with Syrians
The service also maintains its own prisons for political prisoners.
The head of the agency was Major General Adnan Badr Hasan from 1987 to 2002 . He is Alawit (Nusairier) and comes from the city of Homs . Rostom Ghazale has been the leader since 2012 .
