Abutia , also Abutia Kingdom , is a tribal principality or a traditional area as a term from the British colonial times in West Africa , in the east of today's Ghana in the southern half of the Volta region .

history

Abutia is a traditional tribal region in what is now Ghana. The area was the colonial period from 1884 to 1916 part of Togoland as German colony and later British colony from 1916 to 1945. Due to the independence of Ghana on March 6, 1957 Abutia part of the Republic of Ghana .

In 1992 the parliament issued a decree in the constitution of the Republic of Ghana, in which the traditional areas regained their cultural sovereignty ( sub-national monarchy ). This was modified in a special decree in 2008. The current Togbe (tribal leader) has been Togbe Abutia Kodzo Gidi V since 1998.

Location and territory

The traditional tribal area of ​​Abutia is geographically between 6.33˚ N and 6.93˚ north latitude and 0.17˚ and 0.53˚ east longitude. The area is bordered to the north by the Adaklu District and Afadjato Area, to the south by the Adaklu District, to the west by the South Dayi District and to the east by the Ho Municipal and the Republic of Togo . The area covers a size of 1,002.79 km².

National park

Kalakpa Resource Reserve

The Kalakpa Resource Reserve is a national park in Abutia. It is located in the southeast of the Abutia Hills Forest Reserve between 6 ° 18 'and 6 ° 28' north latitude and 0 ° 17 'and 0 ° 30' east longitude and thus in the traditional tribal areas of Abutia and Adaklu .
