The badge for “exemplary work” was an award from the Ministry of the Interior (MdI) in the German Democratic Republic (GDR). The award was made primarily to members of the German People's Police (VP) for excellent performance in ensuring public order and security as well as to the volunteers of the People's Police (FH).

The badge has the shape of an elongated pentagon , but with the point downwards and is painted green and has golden edges. In its upper third you can see the golden state coat of arms of the GDR, which is enclosed by the golden semicircular inscription: FOR THE PROTECTION OF WORKERS AND FARMERS . The badge itself is framed by two laurel branches in the middle. The back is smooth and shows a horizontally soldered needle with a counter hook.
