Peelable varnish

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Removable (English: peel - off coating or peelable coating ) can be used as a temporary surface protection against dirt and damage. The dry paint film can simply be peeled off the substrate later. There are no residues. In general, strippable lacquer can protect almost all surfaces from dirt and damage. Peelable paints are also a long-lasting protection for the walls of the paint booth. That is why they are also known as protective coatings.

Chemical composition

Strippable lacquers consist of aqueous or solvent-based binders, dispersions, emulsions or solutions.

properties

The properties of the strippable lacquers are based on the needs and requirements of the product to be protected and can have the following properties:

  • Crystal clear: for glass panes, glasses, lights
  • Heat-resistant: can be heated up to 180 ° C for a short time for thermally stressed areas
  • Water washable: for structured surfaces
  • Electrically conductive: for floors in EX areas
  • Chemical and thermal resistance: for masking in electroplating
  • Quick-drying and waterproof: for water-sprinkled painting systems
  • Water-dilutable or solvent-based.

Applying the strippable varnish

In order to enable a satisfactory application, the substrates on which the strippable lacquers are applied must not have any unevenness or absorbent properties. Strippable lacquers can be applied thickly by dipping ( anodic and cathodic ), with spray systems (high pressure or airless ), brushes or rollers . The paints then have to dry at room temperature. The drying time depends on the humidity and room temperature. Depending on the use and degree of soiling, the strippable lacquers have a service life of up to six months. After use, the peelable lacquer can be peeled off in large pieces, even over corners and edges, and a new layer can be applied without any further preparation.

Economical advantages

Strippable lacquers offer numerous advantages that simple plastic covers cannot provide:

  • Personnel cost savings through quick application using an airless system
  • Shorter downtimes thanks to easy removal of the paint layer including residues
  • Easier work thanks to bright and clean cabins
  • Less scrap when combining strippable and dust-binding lacquers for spray booths, combination boxes and drying zones (higher " first run ok rate ")
  • Environmentally friendly if there are no harmful or aggressive substances in the paint
  • Safety through the non-flammability of the strippable lacquer.

Areas of application

Strippable lacquers are used in different areas, for example in metal , ceramic , dental and radiation protection technology . They are also used, for example, in window construction or as transport protection (scratch protection). Different colors are possible, including the solvent-based and water-thinnable variants. In addition, strippable lacquers can be used in production systems, such as glue presses, printing lines, as well as painting and maintenance work. But also for the temporary protection of furniture, mineral objects, injection molds, threads and machine parts.
