Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia
The Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia ( ASSA ) is an Australian science academy . As an autonomous non-governmental organization , it is dedicated to advancing knowledge and research in the social sciences . It was founded in 1971 and replaced the previous organization, the Social Science Research Council of Australia , founded in 1942 . ASSA cooperates with the Australian Academy of Science and other Australian science academies through the Australian Council of Learned Academies (ACOLA) .
Researchers who have distinguished themselves scientifically can be elected Fellows of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia, FASSA for short. Currently (as of 2019) there are over 650 holders of this title, including 26 from abroad and 15 honorary members.
