Acaray dam

Acaray is a hydropower plant on the Acaray River in the Alto Paraná department near the city of Hernandarias in Paraguay . The official name is Represa Acaray . It was opened on December 16, 1968 after a construction period of 3½ years. The cost was approximately $ 36,344,000. The power plant diverts the water of the Río Acaray into the Río Paraná , making use of the height difference of 56 m between the two rivers. The dam increases the difference to 91 m. The dam has a height of 190 m and a length of 381 m. The output of the four turbines is 210 MW. The power plant is to be modernized and its capacity increased. For this purpose, the Paraguayan government applied to the Inter-American Development Bank for a loan of 110 million US dollars in September 2018.
