The Accra Polytechnic (German: University of Applied Sciences Accra ) is a university of applied sciences in Accra in the West African state of Ghana . It was the first university of applied sciences in Ghana. This university of applied sciences is divided into the faculties of engineering , applied natural sciences and business administration .

history

In 1949, the technical training center was founded before Ghana's independence in 1957. After independence, the technical training facility was renamed the Accra Technical Institute in 1957. In 1963, the Accra Polytechnic was given its current name by decree by President Kwame Nkrumah .

The courses at that time were not yet at university level, but already offered courses in mechanics, automotive technology, cooling technology and electrics. Due to the PNDC Law 321 of 1992, the full effects of which did not come into effect until 1993/94, the courses were improved and adapted to the requirements of the university level.

Now technical college courses were offered in mechanics, electronics, building technology, fashion and design, laboratory technology and statistics, among other things.

Faculties

The engineering faculty is divided into the departments of building technology and engineering, mechanics, electronics and electrics, and furniture design and production. Around 1500 students are enrolled in this faculty, 400 of whom successfully complete their studies each year. Of these, approx. 44 percent studied building technology, 34 percent mechanics, 34 percent electronics / electrics and 2 percent furniture design.

The Faculty of Business Administration is divided into the departments Warehousing and Purchasing, Accounting, Marketing, Secretaries (Bilingual), Secretaries in Management and Free Studies with Languages. A total of 3,779 students studied here in the 2004/2005 semester. The students were divided into the areas of bookkeeping with a number of 1,711, marketing 805, warehousing and purchasing 732 and secretaries 531.

The Faculty of Applied Sciences is divided into the departments of Mathematics / Statistics, Laboratory Technology, Fashion / Design and Technology, Hotel and Catering Management. Around 1,000 students study here, around 50 percent of whom are women.
