The acervulus (from Latin acervus = "pile"; plural acervuli ) is an open, pillow-shaped , asexual fruiting body that occurs in mushrooms . It can always be found below the epidermis of the host tissue and contains conidiophores ( hyphae ) that form conidia (spores).
