Achilleion (Troas)

Achilleion ( Greek  Ἀχίλλειον ) was an ancient settlement on the northwest coast of the Troas on today's Beşik Bay (Beşiktepe).

It was made in the 6th century BC. Built by Mytilene on Lesbos as a base against the Athenian Sigeion . In the Hellenistic period Achilleion belonged to Ilion / Troy . The place is named after the alleged burial mound of Achilles , which Alexander the Great and Caracalla visited among others .

Achilleion is now part of the Truva Historical National Park .
