Eight world laws

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Eight Laws of the World , p. Loka dhamma (worldly conditions) denote in Buddhism (cf. A. VIII. 5 and 6 and Vis. XXII. C) living conditions that tend to throw people out of their midst, to rob them of the peace of mind. These four polar pairs are:

  • Win and loss,
  • Honor and contempt
  • Praise and criticism,
  • Joy and suffer.

What is perceived as pleasant leads to attachment , what is perceived as unpleasant leads to rejection, worry, and annoyance. The Buddha recommends to detach from these attachments, calmness and equanimity .
