Ski Zillertal 3000 is the name of a ski area in the Zillertal , Tyrol ( Austria ). With almost 193 kilometers of slopes, it is the largest ski area in the Zillertal.

The Zillertal 3000 network has only existed to a limited extent for several years. Ahorn, Penken Mayrhofen, Penken Finkenberg, Rastkogel and Eggalm now form the Mayrhofen ski area. The area was in the Tux Alps on the west side of the Zillertal or its continuation to the south in the Tuxertal in the area of the communities Schwendau , Mayrhofen , Finkenberg and Tux . After the amalgamation of several previously individual ski areas, it now essentially comprises the Horbergtal, the Penken (2095 m), the Wanglalmen, the Lämmerbichl and the slopes around the Eggalm northeast below the Grüblspitze (2395 m).

history

Penken and Horberg

The Penken was first opened up in 1954 with a cable car , the Penkenbahn . In 1958, the Mayrhofner Bergbahnen extended it as a single chairlift . A second development took place in 1969/1970 a little further south of Finkenberg by the Finkenberger Almbahnen .

After the Tux magnesite mine was closed in 1976 , both companies were able to expand their areas with new lifts so that a coherent ski area was created. From 1977 there was also a lift network between the two companies. In 1982, the Mayrhofner Bergbahnen built another feeder into the area with the Horbergbahn from Schwendau, which runs on the route of an old material ropeway from the magnesite works. Later they opened up the Horberg Valley and the area around the Horbergkarspitze.

Rastkogel lifts (Lämmerbichl)

Also after the end of the Magnesitabbaus in the Tux was Vorderlanersbach by 1984 above the Zillertal glacier tracks obtained by the neighboring summits Rastkogel tapped named ski resort on the slopes of Wanglalm and lambs Bichls.

Eggalm

Starting in 1963, the Eggalmbahnen from Lanersbach in the Tuxertal opened up the northeast slopes of the Grüblspitze. In 1984 the Eggalm-Nord chairlift was built, via which the area was connected to the new Rastkogel ski area at least temporarily - namely only when there was enough snow on the deep southern slopes. The amalgamation of these two areas continues to this day over the valley areas of the Tux Valley, but much better secured by artificial snowmaking . In the summer of 2015, the Eggalmbahnen were majority taken over by the Zillertaler Gletscherbahn GmbH & Co KG.

Merger

After the ski areas of Zell am Ziller , Gerlos and Königsleiten merged to form the Zillertal Arena in 2000, the long-planned gap between Penken and Lämmerbichl was also realized in 2001. After the Finkenberger Almbahnen had been taken over by the Zillertaler Gletscherbahnen, they built an aerial cableway (the 150 Tux ) and a chairlift, which made the merger perfect. For the 2001 season, the area was renamed "Ski Zillertal 3000" and since then has been partially marketed together. Another branding , "Ski- und Gletscherwelt Zillertal 3000", is intended to clarify the connection with the ski area on the Tuxer Ferner , which also belongs to the Zillertaler Gletscherbahnen.

Harakiri ski slope

The Harakiri is a ski slope in the Ski Zillertal 3000 ski area and is named after the Japanese vulgar expression for seppuku , the ritual suicide of samurai . According to the operator, it has a gradient of up to 78%, a length of around 1500 meters and a width of 60 meters.

In February 2007 there was an accident on the Harakiri with fatal consequences.
