The Rastkogel is a pyramid-shaped, 2762  m above sea level. A. high mountain in the main ridge of the Tux Alps in the Austrian state of Tyrol .

Location and surroundings

The Rastkogel is five kilometers as the crow flies north-northeast of Vorderlanersbach (municipality of Tux ) in the Tuxertal , the westernmost side valley of the Zillertal . Adjacent peaks are in the west, separated by the Nurpensjoch ( 2525  m ), the Halslpitze with 2,574 meters, and further towards the Wattentaler Lizum , the Hirzer ( 2725  m ). In the north is the Roßkopf ( 2576  m ) and - protruding far into the Inn valley - the Gilfert ( 2506  m ) and in the east, separated by the Hoarbergjoch ( 2590  m ), the Pangert with an altitude of 2,550 meters.

Due to its dominant position to the south towards the Tuxertal, the Rastkogel is a much-traveled mountain. On it, the ridge divides in a cross shape into the three directions mentioned, the rock walls of which are nevertheless oriented north-south. To the south, the massif drops relatively steeply into the Tuxertal.

Bases and routes to the summit

The ascent of the Rastkogel in the form of an alpine mountain hike on the normal route , the easiest ascent is from the north over the southeast ridge from the Rastkogelhütte ( 2117  m ) in around three hours. Another route runs from the Weidener Hütte in the northwest at 1,799 meters above sea level over the Haslspitze and the West Ridge to the summit in a good four hours.

There is a ski area on the southwest flank of the Rastkogel , which can be reached by cable car from Vorderlanersbach.
