Finkenberger Almbahnen is the name of two cable cars located in the Tux Alps , which in their combination lead up from the valley floor of the Zillertal into the Zillertal 3000 ski area .
Technical specifications
The Finkenberger Almbahnen consist of two separate cable cars, which are connected to each other at the place called the middle station. However, this middle station is not an intermediate stop for a continuous cable car, but rather the mountain and valley stations of two independent railways.
Finkenberger Almbahnen GesmbH, founded on May 17, 1968, opened up the Penkenjoch from Finkenberg with the construction of a double chairlift. The first section of the chairlift went into operation in August 1969 and led to the so-called middle station up to 1760 m above sea level. From there, a second double chairlift, completed in autumn 1969, led to the Penkenjoch at an altitude of 2095 m.
The southern and lower part of the Finkenberger Almbahnen (Section 1) was replaced in 1987 by a monocable gondola, the cabins of which (type CWA Omega VA) could each transport four people. Compared to the old double chairlift, the valley station of this new cable car was a little further south on the other side of the street in Finkenberg at an altitude of 878 meters. From there, the train ran over a distance of almost 2 kilometers to the middle station. This is where the first section of the cable car ends and it is necessary to get off and change to the second part of the cable car. The chairlift in the second section was fitted with new chairs again in 1990 and the transport capacity increased; In 2003, a new monocable gondola lift with cabins for eight people (type CWA Omega III) was built, the route of which runs about 50 m southwest of the old chairlift. Over a distance of 860 meters, this section of the cable car leads to the mountain station on the Penken summit plateau .
After the 2016/2017 winter season, the demolition of the Finkenberger Almbahnen Section 1 began at the end of April 2017. The old 4-seater gondola lift from 1987 was replaced with a modern lift (D-Line from Doppelmayr ) with cabins (CWA Omega IV) for 10 people each for the 2017/2018 winter season . In the course of this new building, the valley and mountain stations of the first section were also rebuilt. The new cable car was finally opened on December 2, 2017 after a construction period of 7 months. This covers the distance of approx. 1,800 m in a travel time of 7 minutes. With the help of 56 cabins, a transport capacity of 2,400 people per hour can now be achieved.
