Hypomixolydian mode
The Hypomixolydic mode , or Hypomixolydic for short , is the Plagaltone type belonging to Mixolydic . In the medieval system of church tones it is also called the eighth tone or tetrardus plagalis . It differs from the Mixolydian tone ( tetrardus authenticus ) in that it has a pitch range ( ambitus ) that has been shifted down by a fourth and a different repercussa . The finals , however, remain the same. (Mixoydian: Ambitus gg 1 , Finalis g, Repercussa d 1 ; Hypomixolydian: Ambitus dd 1 , Finalis g, Repercussa c 1 )
For today's applications (e.g. in modal jazz ) the hypomixolydic mode does not play a role, because the modal scales do not distinguish between authentic and plagal . So here there is only the Mixolydian , but no Hypomixolydian scale.
