Finalis
Finalis (Latin)
- in the doctrine of church tones, the final note of a melody (also called clavis finalis , vox finalis , sedes finalis or finis ). Together with ambitus and tenor, it is one of the structural elements of medieval unanimity. The regular finals of the eight (old) church tones are: d ( Doric and Hypodoric ), e ( Phrygian and Hypophrygian ), f ( Lydian and Hypolydian ), g ( Mixolydian and Hypomixolydian ). They form a diatonic tetrachord , the tetrachordum finalium .
- in the psalmody and psalm tones the final turn (final cadence).
- in the clause- doctrine the final sound.
