The Eighties Memorial is a monument in the Bad Homburg spa gardens and is a protected cultural monument .

Since 1871 the III. Was in the Jägerkaserne in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe . Battalion of the Fusilier Regiment "von Gersdorff" (Kurhessisches) No. 80 stationed.

In 1921 the traditional association of the fusilier regiment "Association of the former 80s" was founded. One of his goals was the erection of a memorial in memory of the war victims.

On August 22, 1926, the eighties memorial was ceremoniously unveiled, which was to commemorate the dead of the regiment in the First World War . The monument was designed by the Frankfurt architect Schmalz and manufactured by the marble works Dyckerhoff & Neumann in Wetzlar. On a plinth made of marble blocks is the figure of a wounded lion, rearing up in agony and defending the flag that has been shot.

The lion is supposed to symbolize the fatherland that was defeated in the war, but still defends unity. The regimental coat of arms and the inscription are given on the base.
