Ad Achkar (born August 17, 1988 near Beirut , Lebanon ; originally Aad el Achkar ) is a Lebanese photographer .

life and work

After completing a Baccalauréat , a Lebanese degree that is comparable to the German Abitur, Ad Achkar studied fine art photography at the Université Saint-Esprit de Kaslik . He graduated there in 2010 and as the first student since the course was founded, he received the highest academic award for his thesis God bless our homes .

One of the focal points of his work is the relationship between man and nature with the resulting problems.

In his series “God bless our home” he dealt with affluence garbage and only used recycled objects for his decorations. At second glance, one saw that the photographic idyll is deceptive. This work evokes associations with Arte Povera .

In April 2010, the Ayyam Gallery, which is active in the Arab world, invited young photographers to take part in a competition in search of new talent . Among the 150 participants, the Ayyam Gallery nominated the 15 best photographers, whose pictures were presented to the public in a joint exhibition in Dubai .

The jury's choice for the first prize fell on Ad Achkar, who won prize money.
