Ada Salas

Ada Salas (* 1965 in Cáceres ) is a Spanish poet. According to ECOS (December 2010 issue ), she is one of the most valued voices in contemporary Spanish poetry.

biography

Salas graduated from the Universidad de Extremadura with a degree in Hispanic Studies . She then taught for two years at the French University of Angers and is currently a teacher specializing in Spanish literature and language.

Her first work Arte y memoria del inocente (1988) was awarded the Premio Juan Manuel Rozas . With Variaciones en blanco she received the Premio Hiperión 1994. La sed (1997) (in German: Der Durt) and Lugar de la derrota (2003) were published by the same publisher .

Her work has attracted the attention of literary criticism and she is arguably one of the most significant voices in contemporary Spanish poetry. Her verses have been included in various anthologies of the new Spanish poetry, such as Ellas tienen la palabra (Hiperión, 1997), Poesía española reciente (1980-2000) (Cátedra, 2001) and La otra joven poesía española (Igitur, 2003).

Her posie, which consists of free verse and very short poems, seeks the “essentials” and in this sense follows in the footsteps of José Ángel Valente . In her book Esto no es el silencio , the writer seeks a less minimalist poetry with longer poems that do not forego the search for the essential.
