Adab
Under the Arabic term Adab (أدب, DMG adab ) (a derivation of the word daʿb (habit, custom)), rarely also kiyāsa one understands good behavior and cultivated demeanor, one of the most important aspects in the relationship between man and God in Islam. According to Islamic tradition, Muhammad is said to have said:
"Ḥusn al-ʾadab min al-ʾīmān - Good behavior is a part of belief"
Also in Sufism ( Islamic mysticism ) it is often used in connection with the behavior of a student ( Murid ) towards his teacher ( Sheikh ).
Derived from the original meaning, adab is also a generic term in Arabic literary studies. Adab literature includes pre-Islamic poems and tribal tales as well as literature for the educated citizens of the Islamic Middle Ages.
Al-Adab is also the name of a literary magazine founded in Beirut in 1953 .
