Addextrator

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the Middle Ages, an addextrator ( Latin ad 'bei' and dextra 'right') was the companion of a high-ranking personality who sat or walked to their right.

In addition, this expression was used to name the two cardinals who accompanied the Pope to the altar , but also the one who, according to the ceremonial of the Holy See , led the Pope's horse and held its stirrups .
