Adelslexicon of the Prussian monarchy

The Adelslexicon der Prussischen Monarchy is a reference work dealing with the Prussian nobility in three volumes. The presented material was collected by Leopold von Ledebur and published by him at the publishing house of Ludwig Rauh Berlin .

content

The aristocratic families of Prussia were taken into account, omitting the families that died out before the 17th century and the princely or even higher-ranking families.

The work offers a brief outline of the history, such as the first documented appearance or the status of a family. Individual outstanding test subjects or those who were inherent in the representation of a family are also named. Also included are coat of arms descriptions. Above all, however, and this is what makes it special compared to the other historical noble lexicons , information is given on property in Prussia, and in some cases beyond.

The three-volume work v. Ledeburs is characterized by numerous corrections to previous authors in the topic and completions, particularly with regard to the number of genders.

While volumes 1 and 2 only follow the alphabetical order, the third volume also provides additions and corrections for the entire alphabet, so that it is at least recommended, if not essential, to include the second part of the third volume.

The author explicitly did not claim to be complete at the time.
