background
After Mark Chavez took another retreat with himself because of his famous big half-brother and Korn singer Jonathan Davis that he was simply not good enough, he set about looking for the right bandmates. After Mike Ransom first joined him, he was joined by Tim Fluckey, Dave DeRoo and, most recently, Kris Kohls ("They asked me if I wanted to play the demo. I thought I'd take a look. As When they played me the first two songs, I was almost blown away. "). The demo recorded by this formation was then sent to various record companies, whereupon Arista Records finally prevailed against the other over twenty labels and signed the band. Adema thus managed the feat of getting a record deal as a metal band without even doing a single gig beforehand.
reception
Adema's debut was received rather divided. While Marcus Schleutermann from Rock Hard gave the quintet from Bakersfield a strong performance with 7.5 out of 10 points, “the only thing about the unconvincing lump of hate ´Drowning´ and some arrogant-stupid lyrics like ´Blow It Away´ or ´The Way You Like It´ is diminished ”, the music magazine VISIONS assesses the album a bit more critically in its review:“ A little less construction and more originality could have made more of it ”. It awarded 7 out of a possible 12 points.
It got a total slap from Metalwebzine metal.de, which even gave Adema's debut with only 3 out of 10 points: “You simply didn't let anything burn, rely entirely on the traditional NuMetal courses (whereby the Nu also means“ Nu is sometimes slowly good "May stand"): As a starter a little restrained vocal emo abstractions, as a main course a sufficient portion of guitar sausage meat and as a dessert not completely thawed chant. The whole thing is liquefied with a lot of not unsavory, vocal melody bag sauce, so that even the last inexperienced consumer vulture can get down to the stomach. The rest is then left to sound and marketing chefs to do the job. Even if a bit is saved on the said dessert at Adema and the usual screeching-and-murdering roar is almost completely ignored here, this hardly makes the music any more refined; rather the opposite. It is precisely this mundane conventionality that makes the band simply irrelevant. Under these circumstances, economic necessities such as the advertising slogan quoted at the beginning can become cheeky. Unless there is an American invasion in the bush at the moment, no one (apart from my editorial team) will soon be able to force me to let U $ bands like this one on my immodest spoons. "
