The Adenauerplatz is a central square and transportation hub in the city of Bielefeld in North Rhine-Westphalia .
history
In the Middle Ages , the fog gate, which was part of the city fortifications, stood here, near the narrowest point of the Bielefelder Pass . In the period of reconstruction after the Second World War, the model of a car- friendly city was followed in this area and the focus was on planning that was primarily geared towards car traffic. Due to its geographical location and the corresponding planning, Adenauerplatz has developed into a traffic junction in Bielefeld. The square is named after the former German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer . Today, mainly law firms and auditors have their headquarters here.
Development
The Kunsthalle Bielefeld and office buildings built since 2006, including the 360 ° house, are located directly on Adenauerplatz . A normal clock can be found in the middle of the square . The above-ground tram stop Adenauerplatz is also located on the square . The sculpture Axis by Richard Serra has been located in front of the art gallery and thus on the northeast edge of the square since 1989 .
Connection
Adenauerplatz can be reached with the tram line 1 and several city bus lines. The four-lane Arthur-Ladebeck-Straße, Kreuzstraße and the driveway to Ostwestfalendamm also meet there.
