Adenoid constitution

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The adenoid constitution describes an excessive development of the organs of the throat ( pharynx , tongue and palatine tonsils ) consisting of lymphatic tissue in children. The term adenoid constitution is rarely used today.

The adenoid constitution is responsible for snoring breathing with an open mouth, nasal language, protruding maxillary incisors, a pointed, arched palate and "stupid appearance". The symptom picture is often associated with a particular susceptibility to colds. Treatment involves removing the tonsils ( adenotomy ) and possibly the tonsils ( tonsillectomy ). In the past, brine baths, light, air or exercise were recommended.

The Danish physician Wilhelm Meyer was the first to describe the adenoid constitution.
