Aegidiischanze

The Aegidiischanze with the Kanonengraben and Kanonenberg is a green area and former ski jump on the southwestern edge of the city center of Münster in Westphalia . It served as a fortification for the Aegidiitores, only a few meters from today's Aasee .

The gate itself was already protected by a roundabout before the ski jump was built around 1633 as an upstream fortification, separated by a moat . In the razing of the city fortification in 1770 the well-known than Kanonengraben part of the outer moat and heaped Kanonenberg the rondel was preserved with its outer wall.

In the late 19th century, it was converted into an urban green area by the Münster city councilor and honorary citizen Adolf Kleimann . On the western edge of the hill there has been a memorial since 1964 in honor of the fallen soldiers of the cuirassier regiment "von Driesen" No. 4 .
