Aeromagnetics

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Aeromagnetics is the acquisition of parameters of the earth's magnetic field by flying over the earth's surface. The aircraft pulls a magnetometer , the data of which is recorded digitally.

The measurements can be created in different ways:

  • in the form of measurement profiles over geologically interesting structures
  • as intersecting profiles in order to also receive data that is distributed over a large area
  • Meandering flying of the work area
  • Flying at different altitudes in order to be able to expand the analyzes into the third dimension (depth) of the ground.

The aeromagnetic measurements can record the horizontal, vertical or total intensity of the magnetic field, from which one can infer the existence and thickness of magnetized rocks based on their susceptibility. In addition to exploring the earth's crust (magnetic land survey ), they are also used to search ( exploration ) for certain deposits .
