Aeroportos de Moçambique , officially Aeroportos de Moçambique, Empresa Pública , Portuguese for "Mozambique airports, public company", is a state-owned Mozambican company. Aeroportos de Moçambique owns and manages all of Mozambique's airports , the company is based at Maputo Airport . The company has existed in its current form since 1980, and a colonial aviation administration for the entire country had existed since 1954.

history

The forerunner of the company is considered to be the colonial administrative authority Serviços de Aeronáutica Civil (SAC), founded on May 11, 1954 . In the course of Mozambique's independence, it operated from 1976 as Direcção Nacional de Aviação Civil . The Mozambican office was tasked with coordinating and managing the entire Mozambican aviation sector.

In the course of a reorganization of the state transport sector, the agency was transformed into a state-owned company with the name Empresa Nacional dos Aeroportos de Moçambique EE on November 1, 1980 . On February 10, 1998, the corporate form changed from “empresa estatal” (EE, state-owned company) to “empresa pública” (EP, public company).

Aeroportos de Moçambique is responsible for the entire aviation administration and coordination of Mozambique. In addition to the administration and maintenance of the airports, this also includes air traffic control . The entire Mozambican airspace belongs to the flight information region Beira (Beira Flight Information Region), assigned by the International Civil Aviation Organization .

The company is owned by the Mozambican state with its own administrative and financial autonomy. It is subordinate to the Ministry of Transport and Communication ( Ministério dos Transportes e Comunicações ).

Aeroportos de Moçambique has 20 airports and airfields in Mozambique. Six airports are served by international and national airlines:

The company also has nine airports without regular scheduled services (Bilene, Inhaca, Costa do Sol, Ponta de Ouro, Songo, Ulongwe, Lumbo, Angoche and Mocimboa da Praia). There are efforts to privatize individual airports.

For air traffic control, the company maintains ten towers and two district control points (ACC) and employs around 86 air traffic controllers. 700 employees work across the company.
