The Aeternitas Friends of Funeral and Grave Design e. V. is a German non-profit association for the promotion, preservation and development of contemporary cemetery facilities, burials, grave facilities and burial forms within the framework of a "traditional occidental cult of the dead" according to the statutes. It was founded in 1984.

Areas of activity

The range of activities of Aeternitas e. V. includes in particular the areas of opinion research, research funding, and consumer advice and information. The association educates the public and promotes scientific research. From the designation “consumer initiative funeral culture” of its other self-portrayal and in particular its statutes, it follows that the association sees itself as consumer advice and interest representation in the funeral industry. He refers to a number of 50,000 members.

Opinion polling

The association determines the opinion of the citizens on their funeral wishes as well as on aspects from the field of cemetery and funeral. In particular, he regularly commissions the opinion research institute TNS Emnid .

Research funding

Aeternitas e. V. provides a platform on its website on which scientific work with a focus on cemeteries or burials can be published. The association also commissions some scientific work itself. He also organizes or participates in scientific conferences.

Consumer advice and information

The association provides information on the implementation of a funeral and funeral provisions on its website. In the quarterly association magazine " Zeitlos ", members and interested parties are also informed about topics from the area of ​​funerals and cemetery. Association members receive practical help and advice in the event of bereavement as well as for funeral provisions; if members die, their relatives are supported. Non-members also receive information and advice on questions relating to death and burial.

Advocacy

Aeternitas e. V. and its employees are present as experts in regional and national media. The association is regularly heard as an expert within the framework of the legislation on the respective state funeral laws. For example, he advocates cost transparency, self-determination, sustainability, liberalization (e.g. the abolition of compulsory cemetery urns and the simplification of urn embedding) in cemetery and funeral systems as well as national standards for social burial.

Media Prize "Cemetery Today"

Aeternitas eV awards the "Friedhof heute" media and journalists ' prize. The award recognizes journalistic work that is dedicated to the topic of cemetery with current relevance. The award was first advertised in 2014. The total prize money for the winners is 5,000 euros, with the first prize being endowed with 3,000 euros or, since 2017, with 2,500 euros.
