Emnid was founded in Bielefeld in 1945 by Karl-Georg von Stackelberg , making it one of the first companies in this area. In 1960 Emnid was a co-founder of the “ Arbeitskreis Deutscher Marktforschungsinstitute e. V. "(ADM). The company also became interesting for politics. From their merger with Taylor Nelson AGB it belonged to the TNS group, the fourth largest market research group worldwide. In 1995 the company signed a contract with the news channel n-tv and got its own program. This program was discontinued because of the takeover of n-tv by the RTL group , which worked with the opinion research institute Forsa-Institut .
