Karl Georg von Stackelberg comes from the Baltic noble family Stackelberg . His father Herbert von Stackelberg (1876–1914) was Rittmeister and President of the Öselschen Oberbauergericht. At the end of the First World War , the mother Carla Menzel (1889–1948) fled to the German Empire with her son. In 1938, von Stackelberg received German citizenship.
He studied economics and sociology , but left the university without a degree. Then worked as a freelance journalist and writer. Already in the Spanish Civil War von Stackelberg was Special Rapporteur of the largest daily newspapers in the Condor Legion . Together with Herbert Reinecker and Wilhelm Utermann , he wrote an experience report, printed thousands of times, about the attack on Poland : Panzer forward! In 1942 he posthumously glorified Corporal Brinkforth, who had received the Knight's Cross in 1941 for an achievement in the French campaign . At the end of the war, von Stackelberg was a lieutenant. Nine of his writings were placed on the list of literature to be segregated in the Soviet occupation zone after the end of the Second World War .
In 1945 Karl-Georg von Stackelberg founded the opinion research institute Emnid in Bielefeld , one of the first institutes of its kind in Germany. From 1963 to 1964 he was President of the World Association for Public Opinion Research . He was also an advisor to Economics Minister and Federal Chancellor Ludwig Erhard .
After the sale of Emnid in 1966, von Stackelberg worked as a management consultant. He was the founder of the local Lions Clubs in Bielefeld and Munich, and co-founder and chairman of the Action Community .
