Monkey day

The Monkey Day is an internationally celebrated but unofficial day of celebration and remembrance , which is celebrated every year on December 14th. It was founded and promoted in 2000 by the art students Casey Sorrow and Eric Millikin at Michigan State University .

The day celebrates monkeys and all "simian things" ( "all things simian"), but especially non-human primates like real monkeys, lemurs and apes . It is celebrated worldwide and is also known in English-speaking countries as World Monkey Day or International Monkey Day .

Monkey Day is the occasion for events in zoos and animal parks , art exhibitions , fundraising (especially for environmental and primate protection) and parties. On December 14, 2005, the remake King Kong by Peter Jackson premiered. Furthermore, the endangerment of individual species of monkeys is reminded.
