Diamond mining in Sierra Leone

African Minerals Ltd. (AML) was founded in August 2007, formerly known as Sierra Leone Diamond Company Ltd. (SLDC) and was one of the leading mining and diamond producers in Africa.

The company was put into liquidation in 2015 . The 75% stake in the Tonokilli mining area was taken over by the Chinese company Shandong Iron and Steel .

Mining areas

Sierra Leone , home of the main activities of AML, is one of the most resource-rich countries on earth. In addition to diamonds, primarily rutile , bauxite , uranium , iron ore and gold are mined here.

AML mines in different areas in Sierra Leone over an area of ​​more than 41,000 km². In the Tonkolili and Marampa area , primarily iron ore and diamonds in the Konama area . Several new mining areas, particularly for diamonds and gold, are currently being explored.
