Africa Spectrum (before 2009 Afrika Spectrum ) is a fully refereed, ISI-indexed, scientific journal on political, economic and social developments in Africa that has been published since 1966 .

The GIGA Institute for African Affairs (GIGA Institute for Africa Studies) in Hamburg is the publisher of the Africa Spectrum . The journal, which appears three times a year, is part of the GIGA Journal Family of the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA, Hamburg). The editorial team is led by Julia Grauvogel and Leonardo Arriola.

The GIGA Journal Family was funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) as an open access pilot project. At the beginning of 2009, several established social science journals, including Africa Spectrum , were converted to open access journals and have since been accessible online free of charge worldwide. The magazines will also be continued as print versions.

Africa Spectrum is aimed at experts and interested parties who deal with Africa in science and politics, business, administration and the media.

Before publication, all scientific articles are subjected to a double-anonymized peer review process in order to ensure the quality of the articles.

Africa Spectrum is evaluated and indexed by the Social Science Citation Index (ISI / SSCI), the Public Affairs Information Service (PAIS) and the International Bibliography of the Social Sciences (IBSS). In addition, the journal is part of the inventory of many public and university libraries in Germany and other countries.
