Aga Khan (title)

Aga Khan or Aga Chan ( Persian آقا خان Āqā Chān , DMG Āqā Ḫān ) is the title givenby the Shah of Persia in the early 19th century to the head ( imam ) of the Islamic religious community of the Nizarite Ismailis , Hassan Ali Shah (1800–1881), by the Shah of Persia and after his flight to India was confirmed by the British. Since then, this title has been passed on to his successors. The third Aga Khan represented India in 1932 and in the League of Nations from 1934 to 1937.
