Agassin

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The agassin was a type of dog mentioned in ancient Roman sources and is now considered by some authors to be the ancestor of the terriers . Arrianus mentions in his Commentario that the inhabitants of Britain have dogs for underground hunting, which in the local language were called agassins . Around the year 200 describes Oppian of Apamea in his work Kynegetika ( About hunting also) Dogs of that name and also mentions the alternative name agasses . According to his description, the dogs are smaller terriers.

To what extent the Agassin is actually related to today's terrier breeds is unknown.
