Ageia Technologies, Inc. was a US company founded in 2002 and based in Mountain View , California . In February 2008 it was taken over by Nvidia .

The semiconductor manufacturer developed the physics accelerator (PPU) PhysX , which has been available since May 2006 as an expansion card for computers .

The task of such a processor is to calculate primarily physically conditioned effects (e.g. interaction with objects, simulation of liquids or clothing) in order to relieve the CPU . This required the development of a special interface ( physics engine ) called the PhysX API (formerly NovodeX). This serves z. B. Game developers as a basis to use the functionality of PhysX.

As chairman of the board (CEO), co-founder Manju Hegde was in office until the takeover; Curtis Davis was President and Chief Operating Officer (COO). Furthermore, Ed Fries, a former Microsoft representative, sat on Ageia's supervisory board .
