Agias (son of Antiochus)

Agias ( ancient Greek Ἀγίας ) was an Elier from the priestly family of Iamidai , who performed the oracle service in the oracle of Olympia .

He was the son of Antiochus and brother of the seer Tisamenus , who was in the service of Sparta . According to Herodotus, who said Oracle of Delphi to the Tisamenus require that he as a sacrifice for the victory against the Persian Empire had to win five victories, after which he trained and at the Olympic Games champion in pentathlon was. The Spartans urged him after the failure to win that he had to take part in the battles, as the oracle probably meant that too. As a condition, he demanded full citizenship, which the Spartans initially rejected. When the situation became more critical, they agreed, but Tisamenus now also demanded citizenship for his brother Agias, which was finally granted to both.
