The Partia Agrare Ambientaliste e Shqipërisë ( Albanian for "Environment and Agricultural Party of Albania"; acronym: PAA or PAASH ) is a political party in Albania .

Political orientation

It was founded in 1991 as Partia Agrare e Shqipërisë to represent the interests of farmers and small producers in urban and rural areas. In 2003 it renamed itself and at the same time increasingly included environmental aspects in its program.

The PAA sees itself as a party in the political center . She advocates the economic development of Albania with a free market economy - in particular the development and modernization of agriculture and rural regions - taking into account the environment and the country's integration into the European Union and NATO (joined in 2009). In the environmental sector, it advocates the improvement of the energy supply, primarily with renewable energies, the expansion of public transport, the limitation of water and air pollution through legal measures and the protection of biodiversity.

At present (2011) Lufter Xhuveli is chairman of the PAA. He was agriculture and environment minister in various governments (socialists and democrats).

Election results

In the 1997 elections, the PAA won a seat in parliament for the first time, with 0.8% of the vote. In 2001 she got 3 seats with 2.6% of the votes, in 2005 she won another seat with 6.6%. In the 2009 parliamentary elections, the party lost its seats as a result of an electoral reform that disadvantaged smaller parties ( threshold clause ) and has not been represented in parliament since then.
